Here I am posing with a cute juniper. Shout out to Beauty by Kim Kim for making me feel beautiful.
MORE ABOUT LANLY When I was a little girl, I was friends with a juniper tree in my backyard. It was sprinkled with these fat, silvery, blue "berries"; that somehow glowed lusciously. For whatever reason, I deeply wished that those berries were magical, and I was heartbroken when my family cut this tree down. Fast-forward to 22 years later, and I am using this very tree for survival as a Wilderness Guide, trekking young kids through back country woods with no phones, water, or even matches. We rub the wood together to spark an ember and break the branches to feed the fire so we can stay warm in the snow. We boil our daily meals in creek water that is “sometimes” fresh. The berries are medicinal and also give us energy during long, grueling hikes. The needle-like leaves serve as an antifungal scrub for our only metal cup, and also as a nourishing and fragrant tea that festively lifts our spirits. As I walk the lands that my herbalist teachers used to walk, I see that Mother Nature is abundant and always provides - even in the seemingly barren desert. As I look back, I get to marvel at how my childhood self really knew that the juniper was indeed, magical. I have experienced many profound awakenings and priceless lessons, enriching me with countless stories from my time on-trail. All of this has inspired me to create Yutori Rewilding so that others can experience this too. I invite you to join me in an adventure and witness your own stories unfold!
